So, I went to the competition. It was ok, a lot of the clarinet players stunk out loud. My name was called, and I was the only clarinet to go up, so I had to walk up the stairs of doom alone. Woops, I forgot my reed, oh well, no turning back now. I walk in, "Thank you for judging me," all the usual stuff to butter them up, alongside my suit, letting them know that I'm not messing up.
"Give me a note" I play him an Eb. He notices that I'm a tad bit nervous (this being my second competition.) I start to play an E scale, no troubles, I could have made the break better, but hey, I was nervous. Then comes chromatic, one of the easiest scales to do, and I blew the high C since my mouth was quivering. I played the piece beautifully, receiving nods and the like, and trying to put in my dynamics. It was all downhill from there, I played a simple sightreading piece. Then, I left, all within 60 seconds. Though it was pretty easy, possibly the second scariest thing I've felt in a while.
Good luck, Alex, I hope you make it in!
